There are many things in our world that can make us happy, such as going to the movies with friends, being offered free food, or getting a test postponed. However, in the middle of the typhoon belt, in the tropical country of the Philippines, and 36.4 kilometers from the blocky building of ISM, is a place that can make us happier than ever. We refer this magical place as “Enchanted Kingdom”. Enchanted Kingdom’s top-tier placement in the hierarchy of happiness is simply due to it being an amusement park. Who wouldn’t love and enjoy hurtling down roller coasters, eating candy flaws, and watching amazing performances all in one day?
Due to the fun and happiness the venue provides, the Service Learning Council (SLC) is hosting an upcoming February 28th Saturday Service trip at Enchanted Kingdom. John Hadaway, member of the council, says that “the trip serves as an exciting opportunity not only for the kids supported by our service partners, but also for students of our school. Many of us haven’t had the chance to go and visit Enchanted Kingdom due to it being relatively far away, so it will be a great mix of service and fun.” Since a large number of service partners and children will be present, the SLC is planning to take as many as 30 students to manage the trip.
The Service Learning Council provides us with numerous opportunities to constantly help our community throughout the year, but this event will be one of the most intriguing yet. A large portion of the children whom we support will be present at the theme park, and the trip will serve as a great opportunity to get to know them better. While it is often quoted that “a picture is worth a thousand words,” this statement’s accuracy increases significantly if we substitute the word “picture” for “roller coaster ride”- unique moments can leave a far more lasting impact than words. A big reason to be involved in service is to create bonds with those who are part of our community, and there is no better way of doing so than by sharing the numerous exhilarating experiences that await us at Enchanted Kingdom!
