The Sustainability Council is holding an Earth Day celebration on campus on April 22nd, and it is a big one. The organization is preparing tons of activities prepared for students of all grade levels. Booths from their livelihood partners such as Papaya Academy and Greenbar will be present along the halls to sell sustainable products and goods. UnMeat will be returning this year to allow students to taste their plant-based products. MS students will be able to see beautiful bird and butterfly feeders displayed in the MS Courtyard. Lastly, SusCo’s members will be hosting a Biodiversity Walk after school from 3:15-4:15 pm to showcase biodiversity within ISM and the new Biodiversity Plaques which are meant to inform students about the plants and animals on campus
Earth Day is an environmental initiative that started in the United States of America in order to promote care for the environment and as a way to make higher government officials aware of the usually ignored issue. Today, this event has gone international and millions of people and schools around the world, including ISM, celebrate it to promote the school’s sustainable practices and values.
Marny, the events head of Sustainability Council and one of the heads of the Earth Day events, said that “the most challenging part about organizing all the activities for Earth Day is keeping track of all the updates and progress of each activity we planned, but we owe it to the leadership of many SusCo members that we make sure to keep ourselves on track.”
Also be aware that on April 17th, around 8:45-9:45 am, there will be a school-wide event called Earth Hour where teachers are encouraged to turn off the lights and air conditioners in their classrooms and try to stay as device-free as possible.
Remember to drop by the booths, stalls, and activities happening on April 22nd. Support the people who have done their best and dedicated their craft to promoting sustainability, and the students that have spent months preparing for this amazing and special day. See you there!
