The First Annual Ballin’ for Bahay event was held on April 13th on the covered courts at ISM. The 3-on-3 mixed-gender basketball tournament raised funds for the ninth-grade service partner, Bahay Tuluyan – a foundation that works to help underprivileged children in Luzon. 11 teams competed in the well-attended event that included a knockout competition for spectators, a band intermission from Class ‘87, and a student-teacher game between the winners, Le Jones Jr. and a few athletic ISM faculty. Currently, the ninth-grade council estimates the event raised over 170,000 php for Bahay Tuluyan. Ballin’ for Bahay was primarily organized by a subcommittee of the ninth-grade council consisting of Landon, Matti, and Bea. Nomuun, Patrice, and Venice were also volunteer student leaders contributing to the event’s organization.

A short interview was conducted with one member, Bea, to hear her insights on the planning and execution of the event.

BT: What was the most challenging part of this event?

BN: The most challenging part was finding teams to play … since we were all pretty busy.

BT: What was the most fun thing during the event?

BN:I’d say the most fun thing was playing in a team with all kinds of players. I love basketball, so this event was particularly enjoyable.

BT:How does this event aim to support Bahay Tuluyan?

BN: We aim to help raise money to donate … This is also to cover transportation fees for [Bahay Tuluyan] to come visit ISM in our later upcoming Saturday service.

BT: Lastly, how much profit did the event generate, (or is predicted to have generated)?

BN: We’re still counting the profit but I’m estimating 170k+.

A huge thanks to the freshman council for making this event possible and to all those who participated and contributed to its success! Congratulations to all the players, but especially to teams: Leroy Jones, Jr., BBB, and Reese’s Pieces for taking the top three spots.
