Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences (SPTCs) is a new initiative to replace Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTCs). Previously, PTCs only involved the parents meeting with teachers, but the change to SPTCs now includes students. This change was made so that students could have a direct role in discussing their learning and progress.
SPTCs will be held on Monday, October 28, and Tuesday, October 29, from 12:30 PM to 6:00 PM. As a result, classes will end early on both days to accommodate the sessions. Students can join their parents in receiving feedback on their behavior and performance throughout the first quarter. Although the conferences are not mandatory, students are strongly encouraged to attend, as it is a useful opportunity that provides direct insight and allows for open, honest discussion about their growth.
Some students have mixed feelings about the upcoming SPTCs. Freshman, Jwan, expressed both anticipation and nervousness saying she is “excited to hear what” her teachers think about her but is also “scared of what they may say”. Others, like sophomore Sarthak, see the conferences as a beneficial opportunity for students to get “direct feedback from our teachers instead of our parents, so it’s clearer.”
Teachers believe that adding students benefits both the students and the teacher. Mrs. Rodgers emphasized how she “couldn’t believe this change hadn’t been done before,” and wishes for an even greater switch to Student-Led Conferences soon.
This inclusion aims to foster student understanding and accountability in their academic journey. Teachers are eager for students to engage in meaningful discussions that can help shape the rest of the school year. They look forward to seeing you all at SPTCs and hope that you gain valuable information about yourselves and your learning journey!
