On Friday March 26, ISM will be having its inaugural High School International Day hosted by ISSBA to celebrate the 92 different cultures represented at ISM. During the day, students will be participating in various student and teacher-led activities, hosted by ISM’s clubs and Honor Societies, ranging from making cultural foods, to trivia! Students will also have the opportunity to wear traditional attire from their home countries or represent their favorite sports teams.
Starting on March 2nd, students were able to choose their activities out of nearly 40 different options. Some of these include learning how to make crepes, tangyuan, guacamole, mango sticky rice and halo halo or finding out how much Buldak ramen they can stomach. Other activities took a more peaceful approach like a Japanese tea ceremony or getting a taste of South Africa’s “lekker” flavours. Besides having a variety of foods to try, International Day features 7 sports activities, the arts, trivia, debate, chess, history and even how to set up a tent among many others..
When asked what the aims of International Day are, ISSBA member Ariya says “Our goal with International Day is to strengthen intercultural competency, build stronger cooperation on common interests, and promote community service.” With all the representation of student leadership through clubs and honor societies, International Day was a roaring success, and hopefully a new yearly tradition at ISM.
Overall, the HS body has been avidly awaiting the arrival of International Day to learn about the myriad of cultures that ISM is home to.
