The song “We’re All In This Together” from Disney’s High School Musical may come into one’s head when shown the word “us” or “together” but here at ISM, the music department has put together an event that may change that for everyone. “Amin-Atin” means “from us to ours”. It is the theme for each “Alls” Concert – Choir, Strings, and Band. “The Music Department community would like to share the gift of music with our broader ISM community and celebrate those things that connect us,” says Ms. Provencher, the music program leader and choir teacher.
The All-Choir concert will lead the series this Thursday, November 14th, strings on the 20th of November, and the band concert the following week on November 27.
Preparation for this event has been no easy task. Both students and teachers in the music department have been working non-stop during and out-of-school hours to put together a special evening for all audiences. “From the grade 5 students’ first ever ISM band concert to the grade 7 and 8 advanced band pieces, and even to performing with the high school classes on tuba and euphonium, there is so much music happening and the students are excited and ready to show off their skills!” says Ms. Dudley, a band teacher, showing that all students experience something different during the concert. “I’m looking forward to captivating people with our music and hearing ourselves on the big stage once again. There is a certain thrill in performing, especially as a huge ensemble to hundreds of listening audience members,” says Jeffrey, a trumpet player in the band department.
Working in such a large group may be difficult, but each contributor makes for a better outcome. Alice, a violinist from the strings department, shares her opinion on the preparation: “It took looks of practice and effort as an ensemble, but it’s exciting to see it all come together!”
These precious performances are cherished by many. Bonds are formed, people come, and most importantly memories are made. “This will be my last All Choirs concert and I will truly miss it, but I’m excited to cherish the concert this Thursday, make the most of every second, and sing with talented and inspiring people,” says Christiana, a singer from our choir department ready to give it her all in her last performance.
Best of luck to all our Bearcat performers, whether from elementary or high school. Break a leg!
