An International Baccalaureate (IB) workshop took place from September 12 to 14 at ISM, hosting sessions on the new syllabus, programs, and criteria for the Class of 2027.
Teachers from all over Asia were present, representing their international schools and showcasing the scope of the IB diploma. The conference helped improve the implementation of the new curriculum by encouraging a more idea-based and interdisciplinary approach.
Teachers of all levels, both experienced and new, were invited to help develop their understanding of the IB. Overall, it helped all teachers feel more comfortable in the IB.
Mr. Alvarez, a 9th-grade English teacher, shared his experience attending a workshop on the Extended Essay—one of the full IB diploma requirements that is written alongside the six main subjects. “I enjoyed hearing the perspectives of my fellow teachers, […] not just here but around Asia. Again, it opened my eyes [to] what the extended essay expectations are,” he remarked.
Mr. Trainor also recounted his positive experience at the conference. He shared, “I attended a Category 2 Math session for the Applications and Interpretations course. It improved my understanding of how to support my students in writing their IAs, both in terms of idea generation and putting a good project together.”
As a whole, the conference was a major success in helping teachers gain knowledge and refine their skills to better support their students in the IB curriculum.
