How many times have you travelled this year? Once? Twice? Maybe over three times? As international students, we often get caught up in traveling to other countries to see the world or visit family. Hopping on a plane may not seem like a big deal in the moment, but it’s inevitably killing our planet. While this may not be the only contributor to the harm we place on our planet, our carbon footprints have spread far and wide.
Thanks to ISM’s Sustainability Council, this week is dedicated to our planet, and all students can enjoy a week full of extraordinary events surrounding environmental awareness and planet protection. On Tuesday from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM, ISM participated in the annual “Earth Hour” by turning off all lights. Students also wore green clothing and participated in the Biodiversity Walk at 3:15 PM in the HS Courtyard. Starting Wednesday, the Eco-Bazaar will have vendors outside the Kantina. These vendors include Unmeat, Papaya Academy, Green Bar, Cafe Dolci, and our very own Susco Booth! On Thursday, there will be a showing of the movie “Rio” at 3:00 PM in the Little Theatre and a compost giveaway. Lastly, on Friday, there will be a big reveal of the Sustainability Mural at the Elementary School drop-off at 2:30 PM, providing students with a memorable end to this year’s Earth Week. Additionally, Susco and Cultural Clubs collaborated to create a plant-based cookbook, featuring delish recipes from many international cuisines.
Once again, thank you to all the vendors, teachers, and, most importantly, the Sustainability Council for organizing another successful Earth Week!
