The ISM girls’ tennis team dominated the second season IASAS tournament here on their home turf, securing a gold medal after an undefeated run in their previous games. With an astounding three freshmen playing in the singles spots, the team showcased talent and determination, resulting in a decisive 4-1 victory over the International School of Bangkok (ISB) in the finals on Saturday, January 25, 2025.
Team Captain, Dominique reflected on the moment, saying, “I knew from the start that we could do it. During my final match, when I won the match point, I couldn’t believe it.” She also praised the team’s devotion, noting that she hadn’t seen “perfect attendance like this” compared to the last few years on the team. The girls trained nearly every day leading up to the tournament, a level of commitment that paid off with their championship victory.
Sophomore Yuka, who played in her first IASAS tournament, expressed her excitement about competing at home. “It was really fun because we were playing on our home court. I felt very comfortable and made a lot of friends,” she shared.
While the girls’ team celebrated their success, the ISM boys’ tennis team finished in fifth place, hoping to return stronger next year. Other ISM season two sports teams faced tough competition in their respective IASAS tournaments. Girls’ basketball secured second place, while the boys finished fourth. Despite falling short of reclaiming the basketball boys’ title for a fourth year, the team remains determined, with sophomore Andres stating, “The team will do well if we stay organized, have good chemistry, and stay strong.” ISM’s touch and rugby teams placed fourth, and swimming saw the girls take fourth and the boys finish third.
With this memorable win on the home court, the ISM girl’s tennis team has set the standard for the future, proving that dedication and teamwork do lead to their hard-earned championship moment. We are incredibly proud of all of our athletes who competed with heart, resilience, and sportsmanship throughout. Until next season, Bearcats!
