On Friday, November 28th, from 3:30 to 5:30 PM, students from Elementary School through High School will participate in a recital. This year’s theme is A Night at Broadway, showcasing musical performances from a variety of dance genres. The show includes ballet, tap dance, contemporary, and more, and will take place in the Fine Arts Theatre (FAT).

The theme was chosen by all the dance teachers involved in both after-school activities and dance classes in ES, MS, and HS. Broadway was chosen for its joyful and inclusive nature for all dance classes and extracurriculars offered at ISM.

Ms. Yek, the HS dance teacher, described the purpose of the recital, saying, “[It’s] to show students’ growth, to build confidence, to strengthen the community, to honor students’ creative process, and to keep dance ALIVE and vibrant at ISM.” She also mentioned it was an excellent way for younger students to discover their passions.

Addie, a freshman, shared her feelings about the upcoming recital as a dancer in Dance Company: “I’m excited but also nervous about this recital! The attitude and style of the dance is pretty new to me, so it’s a piece that pushes me to be more confident in less familiar genres of dance.”

Other performances will be held for the whole school during Filipiniana, and Dance Co will participate in the HS Christmas assembly, where they will be performing a Christmas-themed piece.

All the dancers involved in the upcoming show have put an immense amount of effort into not only the choreography, but also syncing movements and developing expressions, especially for the HS students. All the dancers are looking forward to sharing their efforts with the audience..
