On February 21, student-athletes took to the court not just for competition but for a cause at this year’s Ballin’ For Bahay fundraiser. Organized in support of Bahay Tuluyan, the tournament brought together eight teams and raised over ₱150,000 to support the foundation’s work in protecting children’s rights and preventing abuse and violence.
Each team consisted of six members, and had to be mixed-gender. However, the games themselves were half-court, 3-on-3 competition.
For many participants, the event was more than just a fundraiser. “It’s one of my favorite service events,” shared one of the players, Alana, grade 11. “It means I get to play basketball with and against my friends while helping Bahay Tuluyan in a fun and engaging way.” Her team, consisting of Iain, Tyler, Ryan, Ishan, Hasan, and herself, secured the championship by balancing competitiveness with enjoyment.
The event was planned by a junior Vice President, Matti, who enjoyed the added responsibility despite the challenge. He explained, “Since basketball is a sport I personally play, planning this event didn’t feel like a chore.”
Overall, with 48 players, student referees, scorekeepers, and volunteers, the tournament ran smoothly without any last-minute changes. Though participation was slightly lower than last year, organizers and players alike considered the day a success.
The community spirit at Ballin’ For Bahay made all the difference, and many are already looking forward to next year’s games!
