This week, ISM’s Service Learning Club (SLC) kicked off its annual Giving Tree donation drive for our service partners, which will close on December 10th.
Originally founded in 2011 by high school counselor Steve Ayling for SPECS, the Giving Tree drive was expanded in 2013 to include more service partners. Afterward, SLC took it on and initiated the drive twice a year instead of just once.
The Giving Tree aims to reduce waste and help underprivileged communities by donating “items and essentials that ISM students and parents and faculty no longer need, and therefore can be used and repurposed by people who need it more,” according to SLC President Manushri.
When items are donated, they are distributed to ICARE and service partners, who can pick which supplies they need. Anything not taken is donated to ISM’s contractual staff.
Annually, the drive is available right before ICARE and opens once again before the summer break, so if there’s not enough time to donate right now, you can look forward to the one in May.
Overall, the Giving Tree donation drive is the perfect way for your family to clear out items you no longer need. By donating, you would also be helping out underdeveloped communities. The SLC encourages you to donate!
