From October 6th to 10th, the National Honor Society (NHS) organized Teacher Appreciation Week to celebrate ISM faculty and staff, recognizing the teachers who dedicate time and effort to support student learning and school life.

NHS president Pallavi explained the importance of this tradition at ISM: “Teachers are usually not as involved in learning and student life as they are at ISM. There is a really close-knit community that we have here, and teachers go above and beyond for students, and do a lot to help us grow beyond the classroom,” she shared.

This year, NHS planned activities with both ES and HS. In Elementary, students from 1st to 4th grade created posters with each student’s handprints and a note to the teacher. For HS, students wrote gratitude letters to a specific teacher through a Google Form that was open throughout the whole week. The celebration concluded with a Teacher Breakfast Buffet on Friday, October 10th.

What can you do to show appreciation for your teachers? Mr. Lightbown, an English and Theory of Knowledge (TOK) teacher, shared that he would rather watch his students mature to be mindful and kind adults. “If they display their maturity and their kindness through their own actions, that’s far more rewarding than any ‘Hey, go on, Sir!’ on some random day,” he explained.

While Teacher Appreciation Week lasts only for five days, it is important to continue showing respect, kindness, and gratitude towards teachers year-round. They work hard to support their individual students in every way, and acts of appreciation can go a long way.
